Insurance companies shit me. After years of loyally placing cash in their accounts, you have the right to expect fast service to no-brainer claims.
Broken Left Leg blog was started as a means of staving off boredom while recovering from a broken left leg.
It was a no brainer claim. I gave the insurance company the match reports (showing my substitution after 36 minutes), the team sheets, the ambulance bill from the soccer ground to the hospital, the x rays showing an obviously fractured leg and even a news story about the game.
It should have taken the insurance company about 1 minute to realise the claim was genuine, and about 1 day to re-imburse me for expenses. Nine months later, I finally get the cash.

My latest insurance claim involves a flooded house due to a broken storm water pipe 15 days ago. It's obvious damage has been caused, and it's painfully obvious what needs to be fixed.

The first guy came round 2 days after the flood. He ripped up the carpet. The second guy came around a week later and checked out the interior damage. He didn't even look at the causes. The third guy was smart enough to diagnose the problem but unfortunately due to the insurance company's go-slow policy, it took him another week to do so.

Since the initial flood we've had two more similar events, and the damage bill just keeps rising.

The biggest loser of this shambles is the Labor Party. If they had run a top local candidate they would have won, especially since the Lib candidate ran a pathetic campaign based on local and state government issues.

Lets look at the figures.

The Libs have dropped 1.87%. When you consider that many traditional ALP voters would have gone to the Libs because they were "never garn to vote for the stinking greenies", the Lib support is looking very weak in this blue ribbon seat.

The big victors of the ALP not running was the DLP. I'm tipping there were plenty of politically ignorant voters who actually thought they were voting for Rudd because they saw the word "Labor" in the party's name.

Another big winner was the informal "party", up 1.53%. If the ALP ran a good candidate, I'm tipping this figure would have gone down dramatically.

When you add up the "1% here and the 2% there" anomalies and consider the fact that the ALP would have sured up most of the preferences of the minor parties, you can easily come to the conclusion that Labor fucked up big time not running a candidate.

After years of shithouse customer service from Telstra, last night I got up, went to the window and yelled "I'm mad as hell, and I'm not going to take it anymore".

Today, I went through telecommunications hell trying to get mobile internet.

I checked my computers specs. Ram? Check, memory? enough space, operating system? checked out too.

So after hours of waiting, credit checks, paperwork, signing contracts, installing, re installing and waiting on the phone for an hour, the tech finally breaks the news. "Oh sorry, that modem doesn't work with that computer".

"So why the fuck didn't one of the sales c*nts tell me this 6 hours ago?"

Why TF wasn't a little warning not place on the box, saying this very popular computer wasn't compatible.

So tomorrow, I have to make the trek back to the mall and cancel everything. Luckily for the sales girl, I'm a pacifist.

Comments from two stories in the hun today really demonstrated how a large majority of their readers think, and how articles are written to elicit the correct response in a moral panic.

The first story involved a cop getting bashed by three people. The second story involved a schoolboy being bashed by a "gang" of "Somali and Asian descent".

In the second story the gang was racially profiled in the third paragraph, while in the first story, no racial profiling occurred. This is despite the fact that three attackers were still on the run.

What was the reader response to these very similar stories?

A significant number of commenters blamed immigration/multiculturalism for the first crime.

Apparently bad weather is preventing the unloading of Australia's unwanted cargo at Tanjung Pinang on the Indonesian Island of Bintam.

Everyone knows the ABC is biased towards the left. The RWDBs say it all the time so it must be true.

Given the latest opinion polls, I would actually argue that the ABC is biased the other way.

The national broadcaster religiously monitors time given to political parties, and ensures panels on talk shows are "balanced", but given the shift in political attitudes in this country, I would argue that the ABC has failed to keep up with the times and favours the conservative side of politics.

ABC panels for shows like Q and A and Insiders are made up of independent commentators and then partisan politicians or cultural warriors.

With the Libs on 30% of the primary vote, they can only expect partisan panelist from the conservative side of politics to make up 30% of panels. Labor supporters should make up half of any panel, and panels should include a Green for every 3 conservatives.

Of course there are various degrees of conservatism and progressive politics. On the conservative side you've got the moonbats and the small Ls. When it comes to the moonbats, they get on the ABC on a regular basis. Bolt, Barnaby, and Timmeh are all regular guests getting way more airtime than their narrow following.

It's about time the ABC started representing the Australian public, and not pandering to the fringe right.

Race riots, just around the corner?

I love the concept of the "perfect storm", an expression that describes an event where a rare combination of circumstances will aggravate a situation drastically.

The term can be used to describe everything from real storms to sporting achievements. It can also be used as an excuse for political failures, or financial meltdown.

When it comes to race relations in this country, clouds are building on multiple fronts, and it looks like a perfect storm is on the way.

Before I discuss the various storm fronts approaching, a very short summary of why racial violence occurs in this country is needed. A quick description of the various types of racial violence is also required.

Hate crimes come in many forms. Melbourne's "curry bashing" can best be described as a the opportunistic targetting of Indians by random bogans. At the other end of the scale there is the predictable Cronulla riots. Despite what John Howard said, they weren't simply caused by "too much alcohol".

This type of violence is generally perpetrated by young men with generally low levels of education and high levels of resentment about a rapidly changing world. Of course this is an over-simplification and there are exceptions to this rule, but there is more than an element of truth to this statement.

The outbreak of violence against minorities isn't a random event. Levels build and wane depending on numerous factors in a society. Australia is curently experiencing some very dangerous trends and the storm is building.

The first storm front: The Economy.

Despite the current economic climate being caused by fundamental weaknesses in the international banking sector, it's the blue collar worker who has been fed the shit sandwich. Job losses breed resentment and those now looking for work after often lining up with non-Anglo Saxon people competing for fewer and fewer jobs.

The fundamentals are not good for low income earners. Rental shortages, rising interest rates, minimum wage freezes, and rising petrol prices, all lead to mortgage stress. Highly limited job opportunities for school leavers is also a major issue for race relations.

While the economy may have "turned a corner", many of those in the outer suburbs are going to be the last boat to rise on this tide.

The second front: Summer is on the way.

It comes as no shock that the Cronulla riots occurred in Summer. More people are on holiday, and it's not hiring season. Australian racists don't exactly have an egalitarian approach to the beach, and when school and university finishes the hordes from different cultural backgrounds head to the sand. Holiday makers head to places where they are not always welcome and there is serious competition for limited space. A game of beach soccer, or a surf drop in can escalate very quickly.
It's a dangerous mix of testosterone and booze.

The NW storm is also on the way.

There are an enormous number of Australians who go into panic mode every time a boat of asylum seekers arrives off the NW coast. It doesn't matter that boat arrives are dwarfed by asylum seekers arriving by plane. It doesn't matter that there are approximately 50 genuine illegal immigrants (visa overstayers) for every 1 asylum seekers arriving by boat (even in the "worst" years).

Fed on a diet of xenophobic commentary about a "flood of illegals" that is threatening to turn into a "tsunami", "illegals massing on the borders" who are "invading" our country and the lack of "border security", it's no shock that some Australians panic. It's not a war or natural disaster, but that doesn't stop the shock jocks.

Asylum seekers arriving by boat typically peaks at this time of year. It's not cyclone season yet and the strong SE trade winds have eased. The notion that there are 10,000 people about to board boats is simply garbage. As soon as the first cyclone arrives, the boats will more or less stop for months.

The final storm front.

Politicians and the media.

The tabloid media rates best during a moral panic, and boat people are ratings gold. In the contest between sensible reasoned commentary vs feral high rating fear mongering, dollars matter, and the latter option is king.

Boat people politics is no less cynical. Rudd had the opportunity to spend his vast political capital appealing to the best in Australians and arguing against an incredibly weak opposition. Instead, he just mouthed illogical sound bites about being "tough on illegals and compassionate to asylum seekers".

The gatekeepers know this type of inflammatory language has serious consequences for minority groups. Rather than making predictions of race riots this summer, I will just say, I would hardly be surprised if they occurred.

The most likely locations are Cronulla, Sydney's Eastern suburbs beaches, Manly, Gold Coast, Dandenong, Newcastle, Wollongong,

The most likely catalyst? Mass Australian casualties in Afghanistan, one shocking criminal act by one "ethnic", a terrorist attack in Australia or other western country, to local "ethnic" gangs punching on. When all the ingredients are in place, anything from a major international event to a minor scuffle can kick off a race riot.

The most likely date? Jan 26, 2010. Our national day has degenerated into a drunken joke where so many young "patriots" drape themselves in the flag, where their racism on their sleeves, get completely monged, and roam the beaches in mobs.

Hungry Beast item on the ABC does underline my point, however, and increase my concern that critics are now deceitfully using the stranger comments of some reader to define my own views and to delegitimise the ones I in fact hold and express. BOLT IS LYING HERE. THE HUNGRY BEAST TEAM USED HIS READERS COMMENTS TO SHOW AUSTRALIANS MAY NOT BE AS TOLERANT AS WE THINK. How dishonest this is may be judged by the fact that Hungry Beast item relied on about three or four comments plucked out from a thread of more than 300, written by Muslims, atheists, Christians and Jews, expressing all shades of opinion except my specific own. DANGEROUS TO BE LECTURING OTHERS ON DISHONESTY AFTER THE OPENING COMMENT. THE HUNGRY BEAST TEAM COULD HAVE PICKED NEARLY ANY OF BOLT'S POSTS TO DEMONSTRATE THE LEVEL OF EXTREMISM HIS FANS DISPLAY.

That said, I’m curious to know why Beast thought a comment like this was so racist, when it seems to be made about men arrested for allegedly plotting to kill Australian soldiers as part of their jihad, and already defined as just “a few ratbags”:

Gunns' Little Green Book

Yesterday's Sydney Morning Herald included "The Little Green Book" from environmental vandals Gunns Limited.

This 20 page advertisement (that looked like it was produced by a primary school child with no computer skills) was some of the worst greenwash I have ever seen.

It was genuinely nauseating stuff that encouraged people to buy from Gunns to prevent products from "illegal logging" coming into Australia from Asia.

The term logging was only used once (conducted by those naughty Asians), and the term "woodchip" never appeared in the ad.

Gunns of course has an aweful, and well-justified reputation for corporate irresponsibility, so you can hardly blame them for throwing some cash at a PR campaign, BUT, what were the details of the deal with Fairfax.

The Gunns brochure was a red rag to a bull for environmentalists, and I would assume that the letters to the editor section was flooded with anti-gunns letters. How many appeared in the paper? Not a cracker.

Was this a case of self-censorship by the SMH, or was there a formal arrangement? We will pay you hundreds of thousands of dollars, and you lot are not to let any criticism of our company come to light?

It wouldn't be the first time Gunns tried to silence their critics with cash.

And how will the paper report on the fetid stench that is Tasmanian woodchipping from now on?

1. North South Pipeline, A 75km pipeline from the Goulburn River to Sugerloaf Reservoir that traverses the Great Dividing range. $750 million.
2. Enormous desalination plant in Wonthaggi. $3.5 billion. up $400 mil from January 2009.
3. 115km pipeline from Eastern Treatment Plant to Gippsland over relatively flat land. $3.6 billion.

It's utter madness.

The state government in 2004 were very keen on the Gippsland pipeline to use recycled water in the Gippsland valley power stations. The Eastern treatment plant underwent an upgrade to class A water. They announced a study into the financial viability of the project to be completed in June 2006.

But it became pretty obvious that the ALP had already gone desal + north south pipeline crazy. And then the unbelievable figures came in, and the Gippsland option suddenly became unbelievable expensive.

The project was knocked on the head, and the private companies looking at running the desal plant started to lick their lips, knowing that the competition had just been killed off.

Nobody is asking little Timmy Holding why the per kilometer cost of the flat pipeline to Gippsland is three times as expensive as the per kilometer pipeline over the mountains.

We are just getting a environmentally irresponsible and unbelievably expensive water policy rammed down our throats. And don't expect to see the finer details of the private desal company's rampant profiteering at our expense. Those details will be "commercial in confidence" and hidden from the general public.

Unfortunately the Liberals are not ready to govern and many of their candidates are completely unelectable, but, another term of ALP corruption, arrogance and incompetence is simply a worse option at the current time.

Three years of the ALP sitting on the opposition benches wondering "how the fuck did we lose to those conservative idiots" is precisely what Labor need at the moment.

Corporate Australia has a lot to be proud of, but the following tail isn't one of its brighter moments.

I normally would never discuss this on the net, but the person I met today was so open about the company's attitude, I thought it was appropriate.

12 months ago company A (a highly profitable national business in the $$%%^#@ sector) was taken over by a huge multi national company.

From day one, the new parent company waged a war on the existing staff of company A.

If staff weren't fired straight away, wages were cut by 5 per cent across the board.

All professional development, education opportunities, and incentive programs were axed.

Money for any type of creature comfort was removed from the budget.

Staff were told to remove all personal items at the work place.

Some people were given termination packages, but with an unofficial policy of making working life so miserable, plenty of staff walked voluntarally without the cash.

Employment contracts were vague and the negatives aspects were kept hidden from staff.

The war on the staff has become so ridiculous, all tea and coffee provisions provided by the company have been removed. This is despite the fact the company's KPIs have all headed in the right direction despite the GFC.

The new working conditions were brought in by the CEO who is one of the few people on a performance based contract. He's got 18 months to go before he moves on to another huge paying job after cashing in the bonuses.

Blind Freddie can see the company staff and long term interests are being run into the ground to line the pockets of the soon to depart CEO.

The following photos were taken at the world famous Bells Beach today, one of the best days of surf in recent memory.

The morning started out grey, windy, and huge. Getting out was a mission, with some people choosing to paddle out 1.5km down the coast where they didn't have to penetrate the massive shore break.

Some pretenders screwed up big time, and this bloke was lucky not to drown. He's right on the most jagged piece of rock in the area, at a place were a couple of surfers have died. He's was last seen, driving away from Bells, whipped.

By midday, the surf was at it's best. The size was still there but it was cleaner and more manageable. The huge rogue sets cleaning up everyone in the water were only coming at 30 minute intervals.

By the afternoon, the sun finally came out, the waves had shrunk dramatically but there were still some absolute beauties coming through.

And that is why I live were I live.

When Nancy Reagan was first lady of the USA, she promoted the "just say no" message to stop drug use. It failed miserably and the National Party has taken a similar approach with the ETS that is doomed to "achieve" a similar result.

The Nationals anti-ETS stance is not surprising. Afterall, the Agrarian Socialists don't do solutions, they do division.

When it comes to maintaining their vote, the Nationals must play the rural/urban divide card for all its worth, and the ETS is the perfect opportunity to do just that.

Only a fool would argue that an ETS scheme won't have a significant impact on rural communities, but at the end of the day there will be an ETS. The Nationals refusal to support it, no matter what, simply let's down the constituents they claim to represent.

While there are significant impacts of the ETS on rural Australia, there are significant opportunities as well. The Nationals stance will ensure that when change comes, their constituent will be eating left a shit sandwich, and there won't be any desert to wash out the taste.

The Agrarian Socialists should have promoted ethanol, encouraged R and D facilities in "the bush", supported wind farms, argued for carbon sinks on marginal farming land, promoted large solar plants in rural areas, and lobbied for green jobs in regional manufacturing centres. But of course they have done none of this. The denialists and vision-free folk in the National Party have just played the spoiler game. And when global warming kicks in, guess who is most at risk in Australia? I'll give you a hint, they live in National Party heartland.

Barnaby et al simply don't want to solve problems. If National Party voters got over their bitterness towards the city, not to mention their conspiracy theories, the Agrarian Socialists would be more or less screwed as a political force in Australia.

Remember Humphrey B Bear?

For you young-uns, he was a pantless bear who danced around like a three year old. Well folks, nobody actually knew how stupid Humphrey was because he never said a word. Sure, most people assumed he was pretty thick because he kept forgetting to put on pants, but there was always a certain element of doubt.

Surfcoast's Humphrey B Bear, AKA Ron Humphrey, has again removed all doubt about his stupidity when he weighed into the argument about the land transactions surrounding Torquay's school zones.

Ron and his Liberal colleague Member for Western Victoria David Koch, have called on Surf Coast Shire to auction the land adjacent to the college rather than “secretly” hand it over to State Government..

Some person/s in the Liberal Party has formed the opinion that the proposed Torquay Secondary School should be on a green fields site away from town, and the Libs have been hammering away at this issue for months now. They have even been blowing their cash on large ads in the local papers.

Firstly, very few people want the school miles away from where their kids live, and secondly, the Libs aren't going to tell you who is going to pay for the land for their proposed site. Finally, the decision on where the schools are going to be located, has more or less been signed, sealed, and delivered.

The council offices are moving from their current site, and the p-9 will eventually turn into a full secondary school. It makes sense, it's convenient for residents, there are great transport options for kids, and the area is surrounded with after school sporting and leisure facilities.

In short the Libs are barking up the wrong tree on this one, but Humphrey B Ron has managed to take things so much further in an act of breathtaking stupidity.

The "Idiot Bear Who Talks"* has said, in relation to the transfer of land at Point Addis, that council had a “history of giving things away to their Labor mates”.

Firstly when the Point Addis decision was made, there was only two councillors (not endorsed by the ALP but Labor members) on council. It's also a massive slur on council staff and worthy of a defamation suit.

After accusing the non Labor council of corruptly "giving things to their Labor mates", Humphrey B Bear didn't mention that the recipient of the land was Parks Victoria. Pulease Ron, Parks Vic isn't a "Labor mate". It's a government body that managers public land of environmental significance. Despite the inference, nobody got rich from the "giveaway", and the land in question has stayed the same.

And every shire resident should have celebrated the management of Point Addis being transfered to Parks Vic. It meant the area was now their responsibility not council's. This of course saved the council a fortune in maintenance expenses.

And finally, the council land is not being "given away". It will be assessed by the Valuer General and the state government will have to compensate the council for it. Whether it gets sold for housing or kept in public hands, council gets the same amount.

This week the Libs had a big win with police whistle-blower Simon Illingworth putting his hand up for the upper house, but then they blew it having two arse-clowns like Humphrey and Koch go way over the top on school land.

The idiotic VB ads on high rotation during the cricket on Australian TV means we, as a national, can never be taken seriously at the UN. For those lucky enough not to have seen them, the story line is based on a parade where non-sensical groups (like "manscapers" and "minature bat signers") march to a country pub to drink VB.

Lets face facts, Australian Lager, is Australian Lager, whether it's VB, XXXX, Tooheys, Fosters or any of the other numerous bulk domestic brews on the market.

You simply can't differentiate one product from another on a 30 second ad, so brewing companies focus on "clever" ads. These commercials try to attract drinkers by showing drinkers with similar personalities.

Most of these ads celebrate people who demonstrate stupidity above and beyond the call of duty, like "people who ignore instructions," or "go in windmill punching".

A great deal of market research is done before an ad is made, and the CUB folk have obviously worked out that this theme appeals to Australians. Let's face facts people, that is an embarrassment, and anyone who drinks VB based on these ads is a moron.

During the cricket telecasts, Australia certainly doesn't hold a monopoly on cultural cringe.

These idiotic ads are up against the procession of poms who hold up play by walking behind the bowler's arm oblivious to the fact that this might upset the batsmen when a 156 gram rock is hurled at him at 90 miles per hour.

Normally you could put this stupid behaviour down to the occasional moron getting in the way, but it happens virtually every single over. The culprits are normally tweed-wearing, ruddy-faced duffers who wouldn't know their arses from them elbows on a cricket field.

It's hard to believe anyone could make a worse tourism ad than Baz Lurhman's wankfest, but Tourism Victoria have done just that.

If you have decent broadband you can watch it here. If you live in a rural area like me, you're shit out of luck, as it becomes a disjointed mess.

And now you should be asking yourself, "What were those stupid mother fuckers at Tourism Victoria thinking"?

Is anyone impressed by this pretentious crap, and who the fuck made up the slogan "Daylesford. Lead a double life"

This ad has managed to send out more mixed messages than the current Liberal Party, and appeals to such a stunningly narrow band of potential visitors.

Some stupid tourism bint was arguing that the ad, starring Los Angeles-based Australian actress Isabel Lucas, would appeal to men.

Of course it would you silly cow. What man wouldn't want to shag her? It doesn't mean men will be getting a sudden urge to visit Daylesford. Apart from the eye candy, how exactly does this ad appeal to men?

And who thought that adding a soundtrack straight out of the Deep South of America was a good idea? Maybe they were thinking all the European imagery needed some US balance?

And guess who is the tourism minister in Victoria? I give you a hint. It's the same poisonous little branch-stacking coont who is currently fucking up water policy big time.

Here is a little bit of free advice to those boneheads who market Australia as a tourism destination.

1. Market Australia, not a European outpost.
2. Stop wrapping everything up in silly stories where the viewer is supposed to identify themselves with the star.
3. Get rid of your obsession with celebrity.
4. Put in some dialogue you dumb fuckers. You'll find it's a great way to get a point across.
5. Make ads that appeal to a wide range of people, not just ads who appeal to yuppie marketing executives.
6. Advertise a product, not a state of being or vague concept of Australianess.
7. Tell people what they can expect, and make sure the tourism industry can deliver it, and a little bit more.
8. Get a new fucken job you arse clowns. Your supposed to help people in the tourism industry in this country. You're not there to send people to NZ.

Election betting

Without wanting to blow my own trumpet, I am actually bloody good at predicting election result and making a bit of easy cash doing it.

Last federal election I successfully backed a couple of long-shot candidates, and I even managed to win the prestigious "Nelson's demise" poll at Grods.

As a little thankyou to my three remaining readers, I'd like to point out some great odds being offered on the Liberal Party winning elections next year.

Not the federal election if course, I'm talking NSW and Vic.

Sporting Bet are offering a very generous $1.40 for a Libs win in NSW. Labor are $2.90.

When a NSW LAbor MP was recently asked if the ALP could win in 2011 he laughed. The current position in regards to the upcoming election is, "at the very best we're hoping to land the plane with its fuselage in one piece."

NSW Labor are so despised, Opposition Leader Barry O'Farrell could get caught buggering the queen and still start favorite in the polls.

In Victoria the Libs are paying $4.25. Sure they are an intellectually barren, and very lazy rabble, but I'm not sure the bookies have worked out how pissed off the electorate is at Labor's arrogance.

The ALP got in promising to run the basic services well. For a few years this was the case, but it's all gone pear shaped in Victoria lately. Trains, hospitals, and especially water services have all gone to shit. MPs have got arrogant and corrupt, and the Brumby government is very much looking like the final days of the Kennett era.

With a current mood for change in Victoria, $4.25 is a very good bet.

Ute-gate has basically left the reputations two Liberal Party MPs, one public servant and a handful of journos in tatters.

Most journos are smart enough to admit they are wrong, change their stories gradually, or just start writing about other things.

But one "journo" just won't let go and his reputation is getting flushed faster than Turnbull's.

In what can only be described as clutching at straws, Andrew Bolt argues that the mentally fragile Grech fooled Turnbull, but that wasn't nearly as bad as putting him in charge of a two billion dollar scheme.

It's an absolutely desperate argument that aims to "partially" defend Turnbull because "What were the odds" (of Grech being such a phoney)? Forget the fact that there were no signs of Grech's fragile status when he was appointed and he was largely regarded as a diligent and intelligent public servant.

Bolt's new stance is also a massive editorial difference from his position just 5 weeks ago.

Malcolm Turnbull has been destroyed after relying on explosive claims contained in a fake email sent to Godwin Grech, a Treasury official who has apparently been a long-time leaker to the Liberal Party

That statement was in a bizarre rant about Grech being involved in a Labor sting. That particular post required an embarrassing update after police raids found the fake email. Bolt's ridiculous theories barely lasted 24 hours.

On August 3 Bolt backed Andrew Catsaras's thoroughly wrong opinion regarding polls improving for Rudd despite "The OzCar affair - (which) implied Rudd was corrupt and had misled Parliament."

Bolt's commentary on this matter is just like his other campaigns based on lies, half truths, innuendo and slurs: Children Overboard, WMDs, Stolen Generation, Climate Change, Iraq war success etc etc.

Grech's main problem is not that he lied. It's his career. He spreads one falsehood as a public servant and it's lethal to his career and damages his mental well-being. If he was a conservative commentator working for Rupert, he'd get a promotion.

Any regular reader of this blog knows the wacky political adventures of Ron Humphrey.

I've left Ron alone ever since he got the boot as a councillor. It's kind of a policy of mine to not have too much of a crack at private citizens, but since Ron has put up his hand for pre-selection for the marginal Labor seat of South Barwon he's back on the menu.

"What I bring to the debate is a track record of actually having Labor on the back foot."

Oooh sides do not split.

The only reason why Ron had "Labor on the back foot" was because whenever he opened his mouth, every ALP was in danger of knocking their head on a coffee table as they doubled up in laughter.

Maybe Ron was using a cricket metaphor, and the local ALP where on the back foot dispatching Ron's numerous waist-high full tossers over square leg and into the next electorate.

To further support his claim on Liberal Party pre-selection Ron made the following argument.

If the Liberal Party as a whole went out and picked their candidates with a track record of winning and giving a damn and going out to fight, it would put the party in an incredibly strong position to win government

"Track record of winning"? Is Ron kidding? Ron won his council seat by joining a cadre of cashed up pro developers and scraping through on their preferences. It was a fluke, and Ron got the arse ASAP. And now he thinks this translates into a "track record" of winning at state level.

I for one hope he succeeds in his quest for pre-selection. Ron is an endless source of material and he alone could end the Libs chances of winning in 2010 and 2013. ABC's Stateline and state political journos would have a field day.

My only concern is that the pre-selection will be just like the last one, in which Ron, according to one Liberal insider, lost 55-5 to an undertaker.

Who would want to run a TV station in the current economic and media climate?

Advertising revenues are down, so are ratings, the audience is fragmented, and the young are flocking to the interwebs.

Despite being years behind Europe, digital technology will see multi channelling expand in this country, and internet TV is a bomb shell waiting to arrive with the broadband rollout.

Faced with these difficulties, the traditional TV stations have got to come up with something really good to attract an audience. Instead they offer crap like "Dance Your Ass Off" and it gets dragged after one week. Channel 9 simply haven't worked out that if kids want to watch shit, they can do it on the web which is filled with high quality crap without advertisements.

And the morons making the important decisions at Channel 9 think they have come up with a winner by getting the chk chk bogan to host a show.

News flash boys (and it is a boy's club) Chk Chk bogan was a flash in the pan internet hit. Her fans (if she has any left) don't watch the old media. Her fame was only ever going to be fleeting and the idea that this cobbled together show will be a success based on her fame is a joke.

I'm tipping the new Chk Chk boom show won't last a season.

If Webeloff has any brains, she would have a clause in her contract making sure she gets paid when the show gets inevitably dropped.

In the lead up to the parliamentary vote on the emissions trading scheme, watching the anti-ETS forces is becoming a great spectator sport.

The three most outspoken opponents of emission trading are Senator "1.9%" Fielding, Wilson "Ironbar" Tuckey, and Barnaby "independent" Joyce.

The abo basher and the Christian Fundamentalist can only be described as Canberra's biggest clowns, but they are being given a run for their money by Senator Joyce.

The national party senator is a progressive conservative. In other words he admits climate change is real and man-made, but he argues that the ETS won't make a bit of difference and will cost hundreds of thousands of jobs.

It's a mainstream conservative argument, but Joyce has pushed the argument into the realms of make believe.

When it comes to an alleged $75 per head tax on cattle, this is Barny's response.

"Do you want to pay $150 for a roast and think that was an effective place for Australia to go, even though it did nothing for the global climate?

The event is being organised by the one dimensional law and order buff Angelo Kakouros.

And here is the kicker, the Geelong 500 Club's latest invite actually says "we welcome cash".

When it comes to campaign fundraising, the Geelong 500 Club's activities set a new low in accountability and transparency.

Firstly, by channeling the funds through an associated entity, the real donors remain anonymous. Secondly, the Geelong 500 Club failed to declare the money they raised last year. There are no serious consequences for failing to obey the law, and now they are calling for cash.

What checks are there in this ridiculous system to stop an influential donor lobbing a block of cash to gain access to an MP or get policy changed.

Richard Baker is a very good journo, and his most recent effort regarding On line Opinion pulling a story is no exception.

In short, Baker shows that On Line Opinion (stacked with a conservative board) has pulled a story by Greens MP Lee Rhiannon and academic Norman Thompson about Malcomn Turnbulls fundraising efforts.

The story ended up on New Maltida on July 15. Why the Age didn't link the story is anyone's guess, but I'm tipping it's got something to do with not giving their competitors a link.

It's a great story and should be spread far and wide. Unfortunately, it looks like The Age's profit motive (no matter how dubious) outweighs their obligation to democracy and the free flow of ideas. Ironic really, when the story is about democracy being for sale to the highest bidders.

No Such Thing As A Free Lunch With Turnbull

Another dark and possibly stormy cloud is gathering over federal Opposition Leader Malcolm Turnbull today. The Greens democracy4sale investigation team has uncovered some unusual techniques used by the would-be prime minister to amass $1.1 million in the run-up to the 2007 federal election. These most recent revelations about the member for Wentworth's fundraising efforts could prove highly embarrassing to Turnbull and further erode public confidence in his judgement and leadership qualities.
Concerns for Turnbull's re-election prospects could well have been the impetus for the formation of the organisation known as the Wentworth Forum in the lead-up to the 2007 election. The boundaries of the Wentworth electorate had been changed to include Labor and Greens strongholds in Darlinghurst, Potts Point and Woolloomooloo. This traditional Liberal stronghold was now seen as marginal — with Labor having some chance if they picked up Greens preferences. And so the Forum was swept into being. It is Turnbull's key fundraising body and a veritable cash cow.

Turnbull's fundraising efforts have been largely managed by his friend — and veteran Liberal Party fundraiser — Michael Yabsley. With their intimate knowledge of how to tap rivers of gold from wealthy Australian donors, these two have proved to be a formidable team.

Yabsley brought considerable experience to the task of establishing the Wentworth Forum. Significantly, as Chair of the NSW Liberal Party's Millennium Forum, Yabsley introduced a new style of political fundraising in Australia, one which put access to leading politicians centre stage when donations were solicited. Donors are able to make direct donations to the Wentworth Forum or they can become one of several types of Forum member, each with different levels of access to Turnbull. There are five categories of membership with different costs associated with each one: Member ($5500), Sponsor ($11,000), Patron ($16,500), Benefactor ($25,500) and Governor ($55,000).

When the Wentworth Forum was set up, Turnbull was environment minister in the Howard government. The workings of the Forum provide a clear insight into how donations can be used to buy access to a politician. A Wentworth Forum Member receives one seat at larger events organised by the Forum and tickets to three boardroom events. In contrast, a Governor gains a package of events, including hosting boardroom events, two tables at larger events, seating at all boardroom events and attendance at the Governors and Benefactors Dinner.

The individuals who have contributed to the Forum are a Who's Who of Sydney's finance, law and property worlds. At least 17 — including Turnbull himself, who has donated catering for Forum events — have been listed at least once during the past three years in the list of Australia's 200 richest people, published annually in the Business Review Weekly. They include Frank Lowy of Westfield, Harry Triguboff of Meriton Apartments, former Macquarie Bank head Allan Moss, Phil Green, the former CEO of the failed investment company Babcock and Brown, the gaming machine manufacturer Len Ainsworth, John Symond of Aussie Home Loans, Charles Curran of Capital Investment Group and the property developer Bob Rose.

Kerry Stokes recently became a joint member of the Forum with William Warwick, who used Stokes' Australian Capital Equity contact information when he joined. Warwick contributed an even larger amount through Jefferson Investments. The latter company was directed by the late Kenneth Parker, Stokes's right hand man. While Parker was alive, Jefferson Investments and associated companies donated over $1.5 million dollars to political parties in Australia — largely to the Coalition.

Although Turnbull has elsewhere argued against foreign donations to Australian political parties, the Wentworth Forum was able to accept $64,000 from the wealthy American Peter Briger, Chairman and Director of the controversial "vulture company" Fortress Investment Group.

Throughout 2007, the money rolled in for Turnbull; the Forum raised over $1.1 million for his re-election campaign. A total of 92 individuals joined the Forum in this period, mainly as Members or Sponsors. There were only 10 people among the Patron and Benefactor group and one Governor. The latter was Bob Rose who listed his company as Coastal Hamlets, the development company for the controversial Catherine Hill Bay project.

Bob Rose's companies did not donate to the Liberals after the 2007 election and Rose hasn't renewed his Wentworth Forum membership. This change coincided with the federal Coalition losing government. Rose's companies are generous donors to NSW Labor and have given almost $120,000 since mid–2007. Last March, the Minister for the Environment, Peter Garrett's findings, allowed the Catherine Hill Bay project — which involves the development of some 700 homes — to go ahead.

Turnbull's large war chest for the 2007 federal election was subsidised by almost $72,000 of his own money, mainly spent on the production of campaign material and direct mailing. Because of the electoral funding rules it is not possible to determine either how much the NSW Liberal Party spent on the Wentworth election or exactly how much Turnbull spent on his campaign. The estimates from other parties of the money he spent based on the amount of campaign materials produced and mailouts to electors range from $1.1 million to $1.5 million.

The Forum continues to raise money for Turnbull. The latest figures for the six months up to December 2008 show that it raised over $300,000 for the 2008–2009 year. Most of this money was from membership renewals, which provide the many levels of access to Turnbull. Only about $17,000 came from direct donations. More money will be received throughout 2009 as people renew their memberships.

One of the more contentious donors to the Forum is British American Tobacco Australia (BAT). Early on, only small amounts of money were paid by BAT for attendance at fundraising events. Then in December 2008, Bede Fennell, who is the Head of Public Affairs for BAT Australia, paid $8250 for a half-year Patron membership in the Forum to take effect in 2009. A further $16,500 was paid for a Patron membership in 2009–10. The Liberal Party reported this money as received from BAT.

There has been considerable controversy about political parties accepting donations from tobacco companies. After a strong community campaign in 2004, then federal Labor leader Mark Latham announced a ban on his party accepting tobacco related donations. The Greens have never accepted such money. But since mid–2007 the NSW Liberals have taken almost $175,000 from tobacco companies.

The Wentworth Forum activities do not sit easily with Turnbull's earlier reform zeal for electoral funding when he was a humble backbencher.

In a February 2005 email to Woollahra councillors, he went on the public record in opposition to donations from companies and other groups. He wrote, "no political donations should be allowed unless they are: from citizens and/or persons on the electoral roll (i.e., no companies, unions, associations etc); subject to a cap; and donors should certify that the donation is either their own or their spouse's money and has not been given to them by a third party."

Interestingly, in these comments Turnbull did not mention a cap on a candidate's own money, which leaves him, as a very wealthy individual, with a distinct advantage. He spent over $600,000 of his money on the 2004 election. It is not known if the NSW Liberal Party also spent funds in Wentworth since this information is not required to be disclosed to the Australian Electoral Commission.

In his time as federal Opposition Leader, Turnbull has thwarted electoral funding reform, quite possibly judging that the current system gives the Liberals an advantage. When federal Labor and the Greens combined in 2009 voting to ban foreign donations and make contributions from other sources more transparent, the Coalition and Senator Fielding defeated it in the Senate.

Turnbull's recent actions show that he is no longer a voice for electoral funding reform. He has no interest in turning off the Wentworth Forum's river of gold.

As someone who works in the Australian tourism industry, my heart sank when I saw the latest NZ tourism ad.
It was smart, funny and showcased NZ's natural beauty and friendly locals in a clean 30 second broadcast.

The ad was based in a ski hire shop with two people offering the customers so much more than just skis.ie great accommodation, wild adventure, spa treatments etc.

It offered subtle contrasts: sophistication and natural beauty, excitement and refinement, and fine dining in a relaxed atmosphere. The way the ad starred a Maori and a whitey, showed how the NZ can appeal to everyone.

Tourism NZ actually understand that they need to tailor their ads to specific markets.

And then we have Australia's most recent effort. Baz Luhrman's 90 second wank which is completely meaningless if you haven't seen his film. This of course came after the shambolic "Where the bloody hell are ya" campaign.

Then there was the get lost in Melbourne shite which looked like it was written by an abstract artist whacked out on magic mushrooms, LSD and a tranquilizer that should only be given to really sick horses.

Who the fuck basis a commercial on a negative idea like "getting lost"?

Here's an idea. Lets just get rid of fifth rate white elephants, understand that the world's people aren't all high-stressed US tossers like those in Baz's pile of vomit, and start plugging the fact that Australia is a damn good country to visit because we've got great sites, plenty to do, and friendly people.

I know Baz got $40 million for his ideas on how to sell Australia, how about Tourism Australia send me $1 mil for stating the fucking obvious?

When the "King of Pop" kicked the bucket, a certain funeral home in Melbourne's east decided to make the most of the occasion.
They decided to sponsor a ceremony to "honour" Jackson as part of the most nauseating marketing campaign since Maccas decided to flog their junk food by linking it to ANZACs.

Here is how it worked. Set up a cheap-arse ceremony to get the punters in the door. Call all the newspapers, radio and TV stations to announce the event. Get a bunch of free advertising.

When it comes to playing race politics, Australians (since the demise of John Howard) play race politics in a much more subtle fashion than their European counterparts.

While Europeans have organised far right groups that march around in gangs, Australia's redneck fringe is fractured, aging, bitter, and marginalised.

A common argument against multiculturalism is that "teh left" are PC and have caved in to immigrants in exchange for votes.

When the Liverpool council approved an Islamic School at Roxton Park, this" immigrant block of votes" theory came out again.

Liverpool's Islamic society now accounts for 10% of the population. What is it that makes this area so popular to these people? No wonder the council approved this application, number count in elections.

This theory can (and is) applied to virtually any political situation which involves minority groups.

Think of all the votes in accepting refugees, letting in Hilaly, being a Vietnamese candidate in Cabramatta, and remember howMaxine McKew targeted Asians.

Personally I love this theory. It is merely an extension of Howard's divide and conquer attitude.

In 1996 Howard won "for all of us". At this stage he'd already pissed off the Asians, but that wasn't a fatal political mistake.

His narrative needed to be constantly re-enforced so Howard started cutting off the Aboriginals, then it was the Muslims, gays, elites, doctors wives, environmentalist, etc etc etc.

Eventually in 2007 the "all of us" majority had become a minority and Howard had cut off more votes than he could afford.

Those who mouth off about politicians making decisions to gain the ethnic vote are doing us all a favour. They a repeating and re-enforcing the conservative mistakes from the past, and doing it from a weakened position. In other words, they are digging in a hole to get themselves out of trouble.

Last July, a merry band of conservatives from Geelong had a shindig to raise money for the tories.

This merry band of very busy fundraises is called the Geelong 500 Club.

The First question is who are they? It's kind of a regional version of the 500 Club formed by arse-wipe rape apologist crook John Elliot. But of course most of their members remain quietly anonymous.

A bit of digging revealed that Kate Bullen from Prosperity Legal was the Geelong 500 Club's financial officer.

Kate signs the AEC disclosure statements using the Prosperity Legal Address so we can assume they play a major role in the Geelong 500 Club's activities.

Kate is a known Liberal mover and shaker, but I'm tipping she isn't the sole donor to the Geelong 500 Club. They of course remain blissfully anonymous due to the laxed disclosure laws in this country.

The next question is, how much money do these guys raise?

I had wanted to post a poll about who would lead the Liberals to an inevitable defeat in 2010, but that vile swine Scott from Grods has got in first. Instead, I will just have to outline the reasons why the Libs are a complete rabble at the moment.

There is one overriding reason for the Libs current position, disunity.

The coalitions main problem is a total lack of discipline on the Back Bench. Basically the coalition back bench is filled with veteran slack-jawed climate change denialists so far out of touch with every Australian (other than rich pasturalists and miners) it's not funny.

This ugly mob have numerous media sluts in their ranks, and they are already actively undermining Turnbull. Make no mistake, the fact Turnbull believes in AGW, gay marriage, and is a rich banker means he is the enemy for the likes of Tuckey, Mirrabella, Boswell et al.

There are also so many issues before parliament at the moment that highlight this massive division between small "l" Libs and the wackjob conservatives in the Liberal Party.

Labor are also smart enough, and have the numbers to bring in other wedge issues when needed.

The Libs will eat their own, and Turnbull will not be able to keep the tribes from squabbling.

The Wentworth branch-stacker is too impatient and too moderate to counter the 1950s dreamers in his party. He will eventually be dumped as the polls inevitably fail to improve or fall. That leaves a cast of thoroughly unelectable candidates to take his place. Joe Hockey being the most likely replacement.

If the coalition was a dog, you'd have it put down by now.

Today, both the Hun and The Age ran the headline "We're not racist: Rudd" to describe the PM's response to the Indian bashings in Melbourne.

It's just a shame Rudd never uttered those words. The PM actually spoke about Australia being an open and tolerant country. He didn't actually speak about what we are apparently not. There is a slight but critical difference between the two positions.

Rudd, like his predecessor, and like the opposition leader simply won't admit the obvious. Australia does have a problem with racism. We do have racists in the country.

Swine flu circulation

After reading about Swine Flu in the Geelong Advertiser, I'm convinced the only people who want the disease in G Town are the editors. And why not, it's a great story for increasing circulations especially if there was a local angle for this story. Unfortunately for the Badvertiser, there is a big problem with the local angle. Not a health problem of course, I am talking about a reality problem.

At the time of writing there has not been one confirmed case of Swine Flu in Geelong, but that hasn't stopped the Badvertiser ramping up the fear.
Two days ago, under the dubious heading "Swine Flu on Geelong's Doorstep, the paper made the following ridiculous claim.

"Mr Andrews said the majority of the confirmed cases (in Victoria) were young people with the Al-Taqwa College in Werribee, the latest school hit."

No matter how you look at it, one student out of the 53 confirmed cases (at the time of publication) is not, a "majority."

Werribee was still too far away for a genuine local angle, so when there was a report of somone in Belmont with flu-like symptoms, the paper went into overdrive and produced this steaming turd of a front page.

Of course the test results are not in, but why wait when you can put such a definitive headline on the front page. Thanks to the Advertiser, the first confirmed victim of Swine Flu is the poor clinic where the so-called case "existed". Can you imagine the financial damage done to the business?

Swine flu is a disturbing and complex issue for plenty of people. There are serious health, financial, and social impacts associated with the disease. Journalists should take care and be totally professional with a story that can induce panic. The people associated with the swine flu coverage in the Advertiser should have a damn good look at themselves and stop printing bollocks.

For those who have been living under a rock this week. I'll paraphrase the whole affair.

Guy gets shot in Kings Cross, Clare the bogan spouts racist garbage to a Channel 9 cameraman, video goes on 9MSN website and then goes viral on youtube. A couple of days later it turns out that the bogan did not even witness the shooting.

With plenty of media outlets falling for this fraud, you'd think they would have had a damn good look at themselves and think seriously about the ideas of who is a credible source.

Instead A Current Affair and Caroline Overington somehow manage to turn this bogan, from a lying mischief maker, into a hero. They even gave Clare the bogan a massive platform to self promote.

Overington was particularly nauseating on ACA, celebrating Clare the bogans fame. Overington's response represents everything journalism shouldn't be.

It seems pretty clear that Overington values fame more than accuracy. Ratings at the expense of the public good. If you can make a buck no matter how dubious the method, that's fine. Screw credibility if you can deliver a racist message in a sexy style.

I've got plenty of friends in the ALP and I know plenty of people who have quit the party in disgust.

The main problem for ALP rank and file and ex-rank and file members is, nobody is prepared to cut out the rotten sections of the party.

Geelong's bent councillor, David Saunderson, should have been thrown out of the ALP for his first conviction for breaching of the local government act. This toe-rag will not do the decent thing and step down from council, and nobody of any significance in the party is willing to boot the prick out.

The Tasmanian ALP has be corrupt for the last decade. Their deputy leaders are lucky to last 12 months before being forced to resign.

The new Premier, David Bartlett will use the numbers in the lower house to shield his predecessor, Paul Lennon, from the scrutiny of a Parliamentary privileges investigation related to the fast-track of the Gunns pulp mill.

And then you have the basket case that is NSW Labor.

This week, my local paper published an open letter to Premier John Brumby from the Victorian Lands Alliance.

It was standard, "will someone please think of the children and do some backburning," stuff.

I'd actually never heard of the VLA until I read this letter, and it looks like this mob have sprung up out of the ashes.

This lot have been holding a series of "No fuel no fire" meetings around Victoria.

AND

The primary objective of the Victorian Lands Alliance is to initiate public policy which is consistent with the ideals of its member organisations.

Here is one of their philosophies

The Alliance seeks to deal objectively with issues via evidence and a science based approach.

But who are their member organisations and what sort of science do they believe in?

First up you've got the Australian Environment Foundation, who are without doubt the biggest bunch of global warming denialists in the country. The Team at AEF are a who's who of right wing anti-environmentalists.

Next up is the Victorian Association of Forests Industries. VAFI's science is so dubious plenty of Regional Forest Agreements collapsed in a heap because pro-logging "scientists" grossly overestimated the amount of timber available.

Another member is the Mountain Cattleman's Association who have been fighting for their "right" to destroy Australia's fragile Alpine environment. For anyone who wants to know about cattle destroying endangered species and natural vegetation, wade your way through this document

The other two groups are recreation associations who want to ride their motor bikes and horses anywhere, anytime no matter how much damage they do to the natural environment.

What exactly is this story based on?

Well, you've got serial tabloid windbag Neil Mitchell banging on about the topic a month ago, and a survey by a car insurance company. That's it.

The sample size is not given. And none of the important data is reported.

Here is the Budget Direct press release which part of the story is based on. Judging form other newspaper articles around the country, the story is at least 20 days late.

And now the important question Sexton should have asked: What exactly is the purpose of this study? No matter how you look at it, this study provides absolutely no useful information when it come to selling car insurance, BUT, it does get the company's name in so many papers around the country.

The story is so paper thin it gets padded with another survey from Brisbane about a minority of cyclists in a survey who support a licence, if the money was spent on improving cycling infrastructure.

Reid then gets a couple of quotes from cyclists to support the dubious assumption that "Drivers say it's time cyclists paid a rego fee" and then throws in some pathetic photoshopping.

Seriously, did The Age get the work experience kid to write this shit or are they sharing staff with the Hun to save money over the Easter long weekend?

Of course you haven't because there is so much money riding on ski tourism, any reporter telling the truth would be fired on the spot.

Here is the latest surf forecast for the Rip Curl Pro by the official swell forecaster Swellnet.

Over the last few years, Australia's cricket selectors have done a truly poor job.

It therefore comes as no shock that Andrew Symonds, Brett Lee and Shane Watson are all back in the team.

Symonds has been in woeful form for the last two years and he doesn't even come close to Brad Hodge in terms of stats and consistency.

Lee hasn't swung the ball for years and he hasn't learnt how to bowl at all. He's easy pickings for any quality batsmen now that his shape and speed have gone.

Watson is thoroughly over-rated and injury prone. North is a much better option.

Forgive me for being a cynical, but are selectors swayed by marketability rather than on-field performance.

Maybe if Hodge was in a Toyota/KFC/Phone company ads, (and/or an Aryan poster boy to boot) he'd stand a better chance of making the team.

Paul Sheehan's steaming turd of an op-ed piece, that claims Islamophobia is a social construct to "fit the prevailing orthodoxy in academia that the default position for Muslims in Australia is victim", proves a very important point.

It proves he is Sydney's thinking-person's Andrew Bolt who will gladly whip up prejudice if it helps his career.

Sheehan questions whether, "Islamophobia exists at all?"

Then argues, "there is ample evidence that Australians have become uneasy about Muslims."

Sheehan follows this up with a long list of "Muslim" crimes and then argues, "Given the abundant evidence of violent cause and fearful effect, involving a small percentage of antagonists, the general charge of Islamophobia is an ideological fabrication."

In other words, Islamophobia is entirely rational.

I'm tipping every radical preacher and far right organisation will be using Sheehan's garbage as a recruiting tool.

This is D Day for the ALP in South Barwon and the Surf Coast Shire.

On this date there will be a council meeting to determine the future of Torquay. The people have spoken and it is clear that for every supporter of further development in the Spring Creek valley, there are at least 100 people opposed to this idiotic plan.

I have heard a rumour that the first kilometre of the Spring Creek development has already been signed, sealed, and delivered to the dirt pimps. I have also heard that council are considering allowing this first kilometer development because of contractual obligations/fear of getting taken to VCAT.

If this is the case, this would have to be the greatest procedural fuckup of all time at a local government level. Do the residents of Torquay have two choices: get a shire bankrupted by out of town developers, or get a massive subdivision nobody wants?

If deals have already been done, somebody will go down for it. We are talking about hundreds of millions of dollars signed away before the planning framework has been fully discussed and approved by elected officials. It will also prove without a shadow of a doubt that the public consultation process was a sham.

It should be remembered that, if deals have been done then it's the previous council (and possibly state government officials) that are to blame.

There of course will be corruption and conflict interest allegations that need to be tested.

I sincerely hope the rumours are wrong, but if they are true, I hope those responsible for the first kilometer "debacle" get run out of town and investigated to the full extent of the law.

The battle for Spring Creek is hotting up and local landowner and ex-mayor, Keith Grossman, is doing his best to change public opinion so he can line his pockets with tens, probably hundreds of millions of dollars.

Here's Keith in The Age:

"They have blown in here, some of them for three, four or five years and now don't want anyone else to live here — it's ridiculous when such a plan was put together 20 years ago and our town boundary was built around it," he said.

"It is just these few selfish people that are saying, 'We are here now and we don't want anyone else to come'."

Get real Keith. That "few selfish people" is a group of at least 2,500. And they certainly aren't blow-ins.

If Grossman was at the red rally he'd know that.

In an earlier attempt to make himself the most unpopular man in town, Grossman was extensively quoted in the local paper claiming that the objectors were too emotional and couldn't see the benifits of lining his pockets with cash while tripling the population of the town.

Keithie-babes got a very good run which isn't a shock considering he sold a shit load of land to the paper's owner for a retirement estate.

The whole Spring Creek saga will be ruled on at an upcoming council meeting. I sincerely hope that those councillors voted in by the masses will side with the masses, and not cave in to a handful of selfish landowners and blow in dirt pimps.

I still can't confirm or deny the rumours that environmental vandals Gunns Limited have bought a big slice of land in Spring Creek, but if they have you can expect a shit fight of massive proportions.

To make matters worse, Grossman has also been mouthing off about "greenies" who are a little bit suspicious of his connections with current sitting councillors. Damn those people who want to make sure that multi-million dollar deals are done transparently and Grossman's endorsements at the last election don't come with strings attached.

And to those councillors who had their campaing material endorsed by Keith, we are watching you very closely indeed. Do you support local democracy or are you going to sell out the masses to help a mate?
